I had a thought today, out of nowhere it seems, that I might do a course at university next year. Just one course, just purely for interests sake. I had a look at the Philosophy prospectus and there's one that might be quite interesting. On aesthetics. I'll think about it over Christmas/New Year. I may have to give up basketball in order to make the time. I think it'd be kind of fun to go back and study some more though.
We had Gary around for dinner tonight, and were talking over wine and dinner and whisky. It seems only yesterday we were in London, planning cycling trips and not thinking much beyond the next few months. Except it wasn't yesterday, it was 11-14 years ago. Gary told us of a girlfriend he had while working on a kibbutz in Israel. They had 4 months together, then went their separate ways. She's in Malawi now. They still keep in touch. She's married. She's taught herself the guitar. Gary said when she told him that he thought of the times they spent together. I wondered if life is a series of memories you have.
You should keep in touch with friends. They're part of a life you once lived. They're part of a life you live, that will one day be just memories. I wonder where Mark and Vicki are now? And what Martha and Dana are doing? And of Glen, who called himself Glen Ford because he liked the movie actor. And Phil and Pete. So many names. All people I lived with, was close to, worked with. All people I've lost touch with.
Gary says he thinks of that girl in Malawi from time to time.
