The facts
I was born in 1962. My name is Michael Brown.

I live in Wellington, New Zealand. I was born here.

I'm married to Debbie. She's American. We met in London, on New Year's Eve 1986.

Our son Matthew was born on 16 June, 1998.

We have two cats, Tess and Gump.

I'm self-employed with my own web design company, maupuia.com, and yes!, I'm always looking for more work.

Previously I've worked as a painter and decorator and a sports administrator. I was probably at University for more years than was good for me, but I don't regret any of it.

There's more bio stuff in my previous journal - my life

The whimsy, the interesting stuff
I once held the yellow jersey on the Tour de France, gaining it on the climb over the Col d'Tourmalet and wearing it for the next three days.

I am a poet in my mind and seek to uncover and work and polish the words I use. Sometimes they are there, sometimes they slip away from me. I don't think it gets any easier with practice — you only have a better idea of some of the roads you travel down.

I was there in London, at the birth of punk, and had my life changed.

An ideal life? 6 months of the year cycle touring around the world. 6 months of the year studying philosophy, playing basketball and tramping.

I am probably more liberal than you might suspect, but less liberal than I might be happy with.

I generally prefer comfortable, somewhat shabby clothes. Lived in clothes. Clothes I've formed an association with. If clothes maketh the man, what does that maketh me?

I think too much and sometimes not enough. I like drinking, but not too excess. I need to be pushed at times, I'm too easily lazy.

Ah, but once I sailed around the world on a whim and spent long, glorious days in the sun, and evenings talking long into the night, and I visited all the lands I could and came home and wanted to start again.
