Nest egg
12 January, 2000

I feel on the verge of quietly sitting down and getting my shit together.

So, apparently, does Matthew. We have, actually we had, a small ceramic bowl we've kept change in — 5, 10, 20 cent pieces. Today he pulled himself up into his high chair which sits alongside the bench where the bowl was, and spent, over the course of three separate sessions, close to an hour taking coins out of the bowl and putting them through the slot of his money box shaped like a train. He was very pleased with himself. He filled that train right up. I like to think that he's starting a little nest egg for himself.

The only problem was that once the train was filled up he started taking coins from the bowl and dropping them on the floor. They made such a cool sound. Almost as cool as the sound when he dropped the bowl on the floor and it shattered in pieces.

Just as well he had his nest egg in place before the bubble burst on his economic good times!
