Bits and pieces
Thursday 4 May, 2000

It always takes me a while to wind down after basketball practice. We're practising on Thursday nights now, and later, from 8.30pm to 10pm. I don't get home till 10.30pm, and it's at least an hour before I can even think about going to sleep. So I'm sitting munching a bowl if ice cream and sipping water as I write this.

Our first game was last Saturday. We won by default! We played well though. It's going to be an interesting team this year. Our coach of the past few years isn't coaching this year, so one of the players is sort of coaching us. It'll be fairly low-key, which may suit us. It's the tallest team I've ever played on. At just over 6' tall, there's still 6 others taller than me in a team of 9. I kinda like that!

I had a meeting with an accountant on Monday. He's a guy who ran a small business course I took last year. I've got mixed feelings about him. What he told me seemed ok and all, but he's very keen for me to sign a contract making him my tax agent, and committing me to a set number of meetings with him a year — each of which, of course, costs. I'm just dubious about the value he'll ultimately be to me. He has this idea that he'll be my accountant and business coach all mixed in as one. I haven't had the heart to tell him that if I want a business coach, it sure as hell won't be him! He's just not really someone to inspire confidence. I suspect I'll just pay his invoice for this meeting and leave it at that.

The tramp that didn't happen is scheduled for the week after next. I saw my tramping partner, Bill, at practice tonight. He thinks he's lost some fitness in the last couple of weeks. I sympathised, but was really thinking, "phew." I was worried about just how fit he was getting. Now he might be more at my level.

A Matty-ism™ that I forgot to mention in my last entry. I've got this old pair of dark sunglasses. I started putting them on, looking at him, and saying, real cool-like, "hey bay-bee." He's taken up on that, picking up the glasses, putting them on upside down and going "hey bay-bee" to Deb and I. It's very cute!

Well, this has been a bits and pieces type of entry, but, sometimes, that's just what I feel like writing.
