LISTENING

Cricket. There's something quite wonderful about listening to cricket on the radio. It's been a part of my life since an early age, listening to the ebbs and flows of a game, picturing the scene, passing a day or a night with the radio playing softly in the background.

Just Waiting For The Baby
27 January, 2002

It's really been summer mode the past few days. Lovely warm weather, cricket on the radio, swimming in the pool, long hot evenings and a cold beer with dinner.

The imminent baby seems more real with each day. Today we brought the cot up from the garden shed and set it up in our room. It seems so small, and hard to imagine Matthew once slept there. I don't quite know what it's going to be like having the baby in our room. We made a definite decision that we wanted Matthew in his own room right from the start, and gvien the amount of noise babies make when sleeping (a lot) we're glad we did. This time we don't have a choice. I guess we'll get used to it!

We've also been trying to agree on names. Joshua is the current favourite for a boy, but it's the girls' names we're having trouble with. I still love Cody of course, but I'm not sure that's a battle that can be won! We've got a book of baby names, and have both spent time going through it and reading names aloud. It's truly amazing how many names there are that you'd never choose! But it is also reinforcing how important your name is — it's the first big choice you make for your child.

I sort of feel like we're in limbo right now. Just waiting for the baby. I mean, there's a lot of stuff we're doing, and have to do, but I'm really just waiting for the change that's going to come with the baby. I wonder what it'll be like? It's the beginning of another great adventure.
