“And what's wrong with this belly button?” said Deb, thrusting her pregnant belly forward. It's a lovely belly button actually. It's almost turned from an innie to an outie as the baby has grown. I think if she just got a little piercing there …
Deb's just said Matthew tries to give the baby a drink by putting the straw from his drink up to her belly button!
As much as you love being a parent, and as much as you love your child, there is something absolutely wonderful about his Auntie and Uncle taking him away for the weekend! This morning we didn't get out of bed until after 10am. We had a leisurely brunch in town. I had a nap on the couch this afternoon. We've played loud music all evening. And we've got another day of it tomorrow to look forward to!
We met my friend and his wife for drinks and dinner last night. It was so weird being out on a Friday night. It's just a whole scene we're so unused to. (And who knew that teenage girls showed so much naked midriff nowadays? I walked to my bank in the late afternoon sun, and belly-buttons were appearing everywhere.) We're not really drinkers, Deb and I. Pregnancy really rules Debbie out, and I've pretty much lost the taste for more than a couple of pints of beer. But it was lovely, sitting there, drinking, talking, laughing, teasing. Till about 8.30pm anyway. About then I started yawning uncontrollably. Three plus years of sleep deprivation is hard to overcome!
My last day at work was fine. I may even have some contract work to do for them next week from home. But I was smiling today as I realised I didn't have to go back there to work on Monday.
I just asked Debbie what else I can write about. “Shopping”, she said. “Christmas”, she said. “Baby names”, she said. I swear, the mind of a pregnant woman is even more of a foreign country than usual. I'll spare you the details of our day spent shopping for Christmas presents while discussing baby names!
