EXERCISE

Ok, so basketball has finished for the year. I want to keep fit somehow — last year I did nothing after the end of the season and put on weight and got unfit. Any suggestions? Bear in mind I don't really like running.

I have thought of trying to find a yoga class that runs in the lunchtime. Anyone done yoga that could advise me?

The First Day Of Spring
1 September, 2001

The omens were good. All week I've been thinking positive thoughts, thinking we'd win. This final felt different from all the other finals I've played in. This final I knew we would win. Debbie dreamt in the night of a win. She woke and told me. I got up this morning to the first day of spring. To cloudless skies and not a ripple on the harbour. I woke this morning knowing we would win.

I didn't have any nerves changing for the game — pulling on my singlet and shorts, strapping my ankles and knee, lacing up my boots. I wear the same clothes each week, loose, shabby and comfortable. I had no nerves walking into the stadium. I had no nerves warming up. I told the team we were going to win.

And you know what? WE WON!

We led the whole game, never by less than five, sometimes closer to 15. We might not have touched the heights of our semi-final win last weekend, but we were never going to lose this game. The team did what we had to do to win. And it feels so very very good!

If you've been reading my journals for any length of time you'll know what today means to me.

Spring is starting in many ways here.
