June 24 - Road Trip

I took Matthew down to the local medical centre today. He has slight jaundice, which is common in new-borns, and needed a blood-test to determine how bad it was.

For the blood test, he's pricked in the heel and the blood collected into a small container. Needless to say it's not a pleasant experience, and he cried throughout. It felt good, though, to hold him on my shoulder during it and try and comfort him.

It was his first time on a road trip, and we got to use the Mountain Buggy pram. It's a three wheeler, all-terrain pram and waycool. He seems to like the motion of it, rocking off to sleep as soon as we started.

It's slowly dawning on me that he's here for life. A weird feeling. Almost too much to comprehend, so taking it one day, one week, one month at a time seems the best option just now.

I'm going back to work tomorrow. Working half days for the next week or so and coming home in the afternoon. I've just pushed work aside for the past week. Effortlessly. I need to find some way of focusing on work completely when I'm there, but switching off completely when I leave.

*wondering if sleep deprivation might help*
