PIZZA

There's a pizza place where we got dinner tonight called Hell pizzas. It's kind of cool that you ring them up and they say, “Welcome to Hell!”

A House With A View
9 February, 2002

I've just spent the last hour, sitting outside with Debbie, watching the sun lower down behind the western hills and feeling the air slowly start to chill. It's a view you feel you can breath in, sitting there hearing the distant murmur of traffic, and the shrill sound of a speedboat towing a waterskier up the bay, and seeing the last rays of the sun shimmer in the still water. It's a view, and a place, I can see myself enjoying in the years to come. And it's only being outside that you “feel” the view, that you get the smells and sounds that enrich it.

Matthew's with his grandparents for the weekend. We're enjoying a final couple of days alone before the baby comes. It's been a nice day. I've done some painting and some burning off of paint, and pottered about in the garden helping the friend who's doing some landscaping. Deb has snoozed and rested. The cats have laid in the sun and rolled in the dirt.

I took some photos this evening in that lovely soft hour of light you get before the sun sets. Some of the backyard and some of Debbie. I got some lovely ones of her in late pregnancy with Matthew, and we wanted to try and repeat that. I'll see how they all come out on Monday.

You know, it's actually just plain scary that we're about to have another baby. We still can't quite believe it. I imagine this is the fate of all babies that aren't first. That their parents sit there, in open-mouthed disbelief, trying to recall the reason for going through the whole baby thing again. “I think we didn't want Matthew to be an only child.” … “Well that's a damn silly reason.”

Ah, whoever this baby is, it's going to be very loved!
