Elliot at work summed it up, looking out of our window on a bright sunny afternoon — “It's been a surreal day.”

Waking in the morning to the news of what's happened in the US and having the enormity of it sink in slowly during the day and evening. Debbie calling her family in Maine. Debbie with tears in her eyes — “I'm just thinking about those people in the office building.” Watching someone on the bus coming home, her face ashen as she read the evening paper. Hearing snatches of conversation whilst walking through town at lunchtime today. Wanting so much to just come home and hug Debbie and Matthew.

Pretty much everything else pales in significance. I don't know what to say. It's some comfort to be a small part of a community of journal writers and readers. My thoughts are with those in the US.
