Sunshine on a cloudy week
Friday 30 June 2000

The sun shone this afternoon, for the first time in a week of gray, overcast days. Dulls days. Days where we've all been sitting inside, not-so-quietly going stir crazy. It was calm, and it was sunny, and it was warm.

Matty and I went exploring 'round the garden. We went down by the abandoned glasshouse and we peeked into the garden shed. We hid behind a bush and shouted “BOO!” when Debbie walked past. We hung the washing out, and I pushed his ride-on car along the grass. We took the basketball outside and bounced it on the path. It was so nice to breath in fresh air and just be warm while outside.

It's not even 7pm and Debbie's already in bed asleep. She's a little better today, but still pretty much wiped out. Matthew's been coughing terribly, but aside from that and a bit of restlessness seems ok. I feel on the verge of coming down with something. I have that dull ache and tiredness through my body.

On Monday I have an appointment with a Business Mentor. It's a free service run through the local Chamber of Commerce, and it's set up to help small businesses who've been in operation for six months or more. And I certainly need some help. Things have gone ok to date, but I'm at the stage of needing to make more happen myself. I have to drum up business. I have to market myself. Trouble is, these are things I'm not confident with. So I'm hoping this mentor scheme will give me the help I need. I saw a documentary on the scheme a few months ago, and it featured the guy I'm seeing. He seemed really good and positive, so I'm hopeful that things will turn out well.

I've also just started an online “Introduction to Graphic Design Course” at www.sessions.edu It's just a three-lesson one that seems to go over things quite lightly, but there's other, more extended courses on the principles of graphic design that I'd like to do, so I'm seeing how this course goes. It's an interesting concept, learning online like this. I'm enjoying it to date.

Here's to the weekend being sunny and warm!
